Yesterday afternoon,we really happy to welcome Mr.Zhao's coming.He is a famous landscape architect in China.He introduced Suzhou Garden which is one of the most famous gardens in China.
In his speech, he talked about how is the garden first.He showed us the old style of Chinese ideogram of Yuan(means garden),in this ideogram you can find that the words contains the simble of parapet,topography,well and twigs of trees.It lets u feel how magic Chinese ideogram is!He also showed what does it mean in English. In Latin words, garden has three same meaning words 'garden''garten'and 'jardin',these three words are all from the same root 'gen' and 'eden'.'gen'means wall,'eden'means Eden or some happy things.Then,he talked about one of the most representative gardens in China,it's Suzhou Garden. In China,the main type of Chinese Gardens are Imperial garden,Private garden,Temple garden and View garden.In Suzhou,most gardens are private gardens.They were made by some rich businessmen. Chinese gardens have many characteristics. You will find that all most all the gardens in China have river and mountains. This is one of the characteristics in Chinese gardens,we called it 'Fen Shui Cai Shan(means''divided river and cut mountains'),the other characteristic is stone. In Chinese traditional culture,stone is the body of garden and the river is soul of garden.It means that Chinese garden always contain river, stone or mountains.Mr.Zhao also taught us how to choose a good stone of Tai river.There are 4 points which are thin,leak,penetration,crinkle.It showed that a good stone should has handsome appearance,unimpeded shape and different gesture.It's very important for choosing a good stone.
In conclusion, in this speech,i got more information about Chinese garden and Chinese traditional culture.Really thanks for Mr.Zhao to show us many information about the garden,also thanks for teachers to give us this good chance to understand our country's culture.
